Convert HEIC to PDF
Photos become PDFs when they stop being pictures and start being documents. A photographed receipt for an expense claim, a signed page, an ID for a rental application, a set of damage photos for an insurer: all of these get sent to someone who wants one attachment they can open, print and file, and who will not be pleased to receive an iPhone HEIC they cannot open at all.
Drop your HEIC files below and download PDF in seconds. Free, unlimited and completely private: the conversion runs inside your browser, so your files never leave your device and are never uploaded to a server.
No upload. Works with your network switched off. Check it yourself, or read what actually happens to your file.
Why convert HEIC to PDF?
PDF solves both problems at once. It opens on every operating system without extra software, it prints predictably, and it is the format that portals and administrative systems actually expect. If you have several photos that belong together as one document rather than as separate files, use the images to PDF tool instead: this page writes one PDF per image.
Apple made HEIC the default camera format on iPhone because it stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG. Outside the Apple ecosystem support is poor: Windows needs paid extensions and many websites reject HEIC uploads, making it one of the most converted formats on the web.
PDF is the universal format for documents that must look identical everywhere. Wrapping images in a PDF makes them easy to print, email or archive as a single file, and every operating system can open the result without extra software.
What this converter does to your HEIC file
The HEIC is decoded by libheif compiled to WebAssembly, and the resulting image is placed on a single PDF page sized to the photo's own pixel dimensions, so nothing is cropped, scaled or letterboxed. Inside the PDF the image is stored as JPEG at quality 0.92, which is why the output is opaque and why this counts as a second lossy encode of an already lossy photo. EXIF and GPS data are not carried into the PDF.
HEIC vs PDF at a glance
| HEIC | ||
|---|---|---|
| Full name | High Efficiency Image Container | Portable Document Format |
| Compression | Lossy (HEVC) | Document container |
| Transparency | No | No |
| Best for | iPhone and iPad photos | Documents, sharing and printing |
What changes when you convert HEIC to PDF
| What happens | |
|---|---|
| Image quality | Slightly reduced. The image is embedded in the PDF as JPEG at quality 0.92, which is visually close but not identical. |
| Transparency | HEIC has no alpha channel, so there is no transparency to lose. |
| EXIF and GPS | Removed. The conversion goes through a pixel buffer, so camera data and location are not carried into the PDF file. |
| Colour profile | Not carried across. The image is handled in sRGB, which is right for the web and wrong for colour-managed print work. |
| Animation | Not applicable. HEIC files here are single images. |
| File size | Varies with the content of the image. No figure is quoted here, because none has been measured on a documented test set. |

Frequently asked questions
Can I put several HEIC photos into one PDF?
Not on this page, which produces one single-page PDF per image. The images to PDF tool is built for combining several photos into one multi-page document.
Will the PDF be the right size for A4 paper?
The page is sized to the photo's pixel dimensions rather than to a paper size, so it matches the image exactly. Your printer will scale it to the sheet when you print, which is normally what you want for a photograph.
Does the PDF still contain my location data?
No. The conversion goes through a pixel buffer, so the EXIF block including GPS coordinates never reaches the PDF.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is Apple's high efficiency photo format used by iPhones and iPads. Many apps cannot open it directly.
What is a PDF file?
PDF is the universal document format, handy for sharing or printing images.
Is it free to convert HEIC to PDF?
Yes. There are no limits, no watermarks and no account needed. Convert as many HEIC files as you like.
Are my files private?
Completely. Your HEIC files never leave your browser and are never uploaded to a server, so your images stay on your device.
